Dear Families,
Choosing a school or learning program is one of the more important and sometimes overwhelming decisions we make as parents. Many things come together to make a place the right fit for any given child and family, so in the interest of helping you obtain a fuller picture of our program, I wanted to share a bit about myself.
Before founding the Alexandria Learning Cooperative, I spent time as a public school teacher, education policy professional and stay at home mom. I earned my masters in Educational Administration and Supervision at George Washington University and am licensed as both a teacher and principal in the state of Virginia. I started this program to forge a different path for families looking for a child-centered, developmentally appropriate learning model.
Our program is dedicated to including parents in their child’s educational experience, whether directly through classroom volunteer work or indirectly through support activities and deep school/community connections. We seek to provide a child-focused atmosphere that allows each student to progress at their own pace and enjoy the best of childhood. This includes time for play, the arts and the great outdoors. We connect concepts across content areas (reading, math, science and social studies) so each child has the skills they need to succeed in each subject as well as the perspective to understand how all of these areas connect to each other in learning and real life.
Ultimately, we are building a school and families are an integral part of that process. Our founding families, who have so supportively stood by my side, have been instrumental in developing our activities and routines. They and those who join in the future are at the center of all we do.
If you are interested in learning more about the program or would like to schedule a visit, please feel free to send me an email or submit an interest form. Questions and ideas are always welcome and I would love to hear from you.
